IT'S ALL ABOUT

sustainability.

To help navigate the complicated world of sustainability we have devised a pillar of values which guide us through our manufacturing process and form the foundation to our sustainability commitment.

These pillars are CLEAN. CONSCIOUS. CIRCULAR

Clean.

Plant-based.

We use plant-based ingredients for active results. Our products are VEGAN, PALM-FREE and CRUELTLY-FREE.

Safe.

Our skincare is safe for people, and the planet. Our leave-on products are free from fragrances, essential oils, allergens, irritants and endocrine disruptors and are fully biodegradable.

Just like eating clean rejects the idea of processed foods and instead leans towards nourishing, plant-based produce, the same is true for clean skin care. It is good enough to eat, but please don't do that. Give your skin the same nutritional boost that you give your body and mind.

Non-toxic.

Our skincare is free from....

Parabens
Fragrances + essential oils*
Ethoxylated agents including polyethylene glycols (PEGs), ceteareths, oleth, and sulfates
Palm Oil
Petroleum and Petroleum byproducts (Mineral oil petrolatum, paraffin)
Silicones
SLS
Drying alcohols
Mica + dyes

*we do not include essential oils in any leave-on products but we do use them for aroma in our soaps.

Concious.

We are conscious people, both in our personal lives and in how we run our small business. We are dedicated to being sustainable by:

Responsible manufacturing.

We manufacturer all of our products in-house in our studio in the Cotswolds.
We produce stock 'on demand' so customers will always get freshly made products and this negates risk of stock being over-produced. By being self-reliant in our process we also avoid the need to employ other handlers in the supply chain as large scale businesses must do. We oversee every step of the process from sourcing the ingredients to sending out your skincare which means you get a more personal service and it's better for the environment too and we produce lower carbon emissions. You should also know that we do a little happy dance every time an order comes in because your business means the world to us (and our planet).

We source ingredients produced in the UK first, if we can't source it here then we hop over the water (not physically) and we source from Europe. If we can't source from Europe then we question if the ingredient is really needed and if it is then we work with suppliers to find it as close to home as possible.

Fair-trade. organic. ethical.

When sourcing ingredients we will always choose fair trade and organic ingredients as a priority. Our decision to use upcycled oils does sometimes mean however that we do not get the option for organic, however we feel the trade off in this case is worth it to create zero waste products, with a lower carbon footprint and less pressure on the earths finite resources.

Organic crops have to follow strict guidelines on how they are grown and have to be produced in a way that protects the land and wildlife. They do not use pesticides and this reduces the grey water that is washed into the soil, all-in-all a much better option for the environment.

Fair trade is based on fairness so that producers earn secure and sustainable livelihoods. It sets social, economic and environmental standards for the companies and farmers involved in the supply chain.

Giving back.

We know just how precious the earths resources are and that our use of them isn't without some impact, we all rely on the worlds health to continue to grow the resources that we use in our daily lives and we want to make sure that our planet has all it needs to survive and thrive so every year we give back to the charities that we believe will support our cause. Watch out for news about this over in our blog or on social media platforms.

We love trees and have teamed up with Ecologi so that each time you buy from us you plant a tree. This awesome charity is doing some brilliant work all over the world and we're super excited to be part of that. To learn more about their work click HERE

We also give donations of our products to local shelter charities who are working with; those who are at risk of homelessness or are homeless. Women and children affected by domestic abuse and those receiving palliative care. Check out our blog or social media pages for our latest news, or sign up for our newsletter to hear more about where we donate our items, and how you can help too.

Circular.

Currently the beauty industry produces over 100 billion units of packaging a year, which, according to The British Beauty Council 95% of it is thrown away, 14% of which makes it to the recycling plant and only 9% actually being recycled. This whopping amount is contributing to the total of 300 million tonnes of plastic waste a year, a figure stated by The World Resources Institute.
These are seriously scary figures.

A circular economy aims to avoid the 'make-take-waste' system of manufacturing and instead focuses on avoiding waste and pollution as a first port of call.

But being circular isn't just about waste. In order to be fully circular we all need to shift our way of thinking.
As manufacturers we have the responsibility to offer versions of products that have been produced in more sustainable way, in packaging which can be recycled or reused or ultimately in zero packaging.
As consumers you have the responsibility to purchase these products over other, less-considered ones.

Our commitment to being circular is met by the following manufacturing methods

Zero waste.

We are committed to being zero waste and one of our strategies to avoid the use of resources (which ultimately end up in recycling or landfill) is to sell our products without outer packaging.

To comply with current laws and legislation we must provide customers with information about our products so if we cannot provide all of this information on the label we will add small information cards along with your purchase that use the least amount of resources possible.

Any paper or card we use is upcycled from 100% recycled stock and is fully recyclable.c We also use paper packaging tape so allow any packaging to move smoothly through the recycling facilities.

Our amber glass bottles are made from at least 60% post-consumer glass. Glass is infinitely recyclable and amber glass has the added benefit of UV protection which protects the precious oils inside meaning they will have better shelf life and in turn, reduce the amount of wasted product.
The pumps are made from plastic and contain several different components which cannot be broken down and recycled - the decision to use these was a trade off as the most popular closure for this type of product is a pipette with glass dropper but we find this adds unnecessary complications to your routine as they aren't very inclusive and can be difficult for those with mobility or co-ordination struggles to use, and they also increase the risk of transferring of bacteria into your bottle, along with adding oxygen to your product - both of which put your product at risk of spoilage and shorten its life considerably. The pump avoids these problems and so to minimise impact we suggest ordering your next bottle of product with a aluminum lid closure instead of a pump so you can reuse the pump for as long as possible.

If you can attend one of our events in person then we offer refills at a discounted rate so bring along your empties and avoid waste altogether. Keep an eye out on our social media pages for up and coming events.

In the studio we reuse all packaging and empty containers and pass the unwanted items onto local scrap stores or schools for creative projects! Anything that is not safe to be reused is recycled in the correct recycling streams.

Buy less. Buy better.

It's controversial but we actually don't want you to buy our products unless you need them. We want you to buy only what you need, when you need it. We are committed to keeping our range of products small, and necessary so the choices are simple and you can make informed and conscious decisions.

We know that over consumption is a massive problem (30% of all waste is accredited to the beauty industry!) and if we want to save our planet then we all need to consume less.

The circular economy focuses on better use of natural resources, and the simple fact is that many of us consume far too much.

Consuming "better" can also mean avoiding purchasing altogether, and so we want you to think twice before clicking to checkout.

Upcycled ingredients.

Upcycling is a way of reusing waste to create something of a higher value and quality. This means taking a by-product from a different manufacturing process and using it to create a new product. Any waste from this is then used for other processes (such as being made into feed for livestock) resulting in 100% raw material use and zero waste to landfill.

There can be a misconception about waste that is is of poor quality but that couldn't be further from the truth.

The seeds, pips and skins leftover from the juicing, jam and canned fruit industries, for example, often contain key bioactive compounds and higher levels of essential fatty acids and antioxidants which are beneficial to skin health.

By using upcycled ingredients it means that waste from agricultural, food and juicing industries is diverted from landfill, therefore reducing CO2 emissions and helping to create a more circular economy.

You will see the percentage of upcycled content listed on each of our products labels.
